IOC’s Rogge speaks
International Olympic Committee president Jacques Rogge traditionally speaks before the Games and did so again Friday.
Some highlights:
On this week’s banning of nine athletes for drug use: “It is a good sign in the fight against doping. In total, 107 athletes were caught in the two months before these Olympics. We will test and test and test. This is proof the system works, that the system is effective and that the system is a deterrent one.”
On how ready he believes London is to host the Games: “I would think it would equal the readiness of Sydney and Beijing, but the proof is in the pudding, so maybe ask me the same question at the Closing Ceremony.”
