I CAN SEE THE END

Thankfully.

It seemed like such a good idea, picking each Mountain West Conference basketball game of the season against the spread.

Then my record went from bad to worse to 13 games under .500.

There has been a glimmer of hope — I am 8-4 in my last 12 games, but who’s counting? It’s enough of a spark that I don’t feel nearly as bad as Billy White’s left knee in taking on the weekday games solo this week.

For the three people who actually read these picks — Jay, Adam, Matt, you know who you are — good luck once again taking the other sides.

Today’s games:

TCU (plus-14) at NEW MEXICO: The Lobos have 12-4 and tied for the conference title written all over them right now. The Horned Frogs have that we-need-to-avoid-that-conference-tournament-play-in-game-at-all-costs written all over them.

My pick: New Mexico.

BRIGHAM YOUNG (minus-2) at SAN DIEGO STATE: Sorry, something is off about this line. White is out for the Aztecs, but you’re talking about a team that has won 10 straight in Cox Arena and hasn’t dropped a league game there this season. SDSU has also won four straight against BYU in San Diego and the Aztecs are 7-2 against the spread in the last nine meetings. All signs point to an SDSU win, meaning my pick won’t surprise you.

My pick: BYU
