Silver Knights’ game postponed because of COVID protocols
The Silver Knights’ game Monday was postponed because of COVID-19 protocols affecting the team.
The Silver Knights were scheduled to play the Colorado Eagles in Loveland to wrap up a three-game series. The teams played Friday and Saturday in Colorado.
A makeup date was not announced. The Silver Knights’ are next scheduled to play Saturday in Ontario, California.
This is the first time the Silver Knights have had a game postponed in the regular season. But the team still has been affected by COVID-19 numerous times.
The Silver Knights’ coaches were pressed into duty Jan. 26 because the Golden Knights coaches were isolating after one tested positive. They were on the bench for the Golden Knights’ 5-4 shootout loss to the St. Louis Blues and did not interact with the Silver Knights players in-person for days afterward while following the NHL’s COVID-19 guidelines.
Retired Golden Knights defenseman Deryk Engelland ran the Silver Knights’ practice Jan. 28 in place of the staff. He also coached the team’s two exhibition games Jan. 29 and 31. The second was suspended after two periods because a player on the San Jose Barracuda tested positive.
The Silver Knights have won six straight and are 10-1, the best start to an inaugural season in American Hockey League history.
