Royals’ Guthrie sorry for postgame T-shirt

Kansas City Royals pitcher Jeremy Guthrie issued an apology via Twitter Tuesday night for the T-shirt he wore following the Royals’ 2-1 win over the Baltimore Orioles.

Guthrie sported a T-shirt that read “These O’s ain’t Royal” at the postgame news conference. According to ESPN.com, the shirt was a play off of lyrics from the song “Loyal” by Chris Brown. Orioles fans were both offended by the shirt because of the lyrics the shirt’s phrase came from and that Guthrie wore it after spending five seasons with Baltimore from 2007 to 2011.

“My intention was not to anger O’s fans or friends with my shirt 2night. I apologize to those offended. Did not consider this reaction. Go Royals,” Guthrie tweeted.

The Royals took a 3-0 lead over the Orioles in the American League Championship Series Tuesday night. Game 4 of the series is Wednesday afternoon in Kansas City.
