Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon to move start line after Las Vegas shooting

The Rock ‘n’ Roll Las Vegas Marathon and surrounding events will take place as scheduled on the weekend of Nov. 12, but there will be changes to the course after the Oct. 1 mass shooting on the Strip.
The prerace concert was originally scheduled to take place at Las Vegas Village, the site of the shooting that left 58 dead and almost 500 injured, while the start line was located near Mandalay Bay.
“The marathon and half marathon start line and start-line festival concert location will change, but will still take place on the Las Vegas Strip,” organizer Dan Cruz said.
Cruz said officials expect to finalize the start line and venue soon. The 5K and 10K courses will not change, and the Health and Fitness Expo will remain at the Las Vegas Convention Center with normal hours.
“This is all after consultation and review with our partners, the City of Las Vegas, Clark County and on the Las Vegas Strip,” Cruz said. “We’ve collectively decided that the Geico Rock ‘n’ Roll Las Vegas Marathon will take place as scheduled, and we’re working closely with all the local and federal law enforcement agencies to ensure the safety of our runners, volunteers and spectators in Las Vegas.”
