Phil Mickelson gives kids $100 tip at lemonade stand

Besides his stellar left-handed golf game that earned him the nickname, “Lefty,” Phil Mickelson is known for being a great guy and a big tipper. Despite losing the 2006 U.S. Open by one shot with a double bogey on the final hole, Mickelson handed out about $10,000 in tips to Winged Foot staff members, according to Golf Digest.

Mickelson’s generosity was on display again recently in Dublin, Ohio, where he took time out from playing in the Memorial Tournament to make the day of two local siblings running a lemonade stand.

After drinking a $1 glass of lemonade, Mickelson handed Roland Van Karsen, 6, and his sister, 8-year-old Elise, a $100 bill, thanked them and drove away.

“All we were doing was sitting here, and all we saw was this white car drive up, and it was close, and he said ‘Can I have a glass of lemonade?’ and all it took was one little thing for him to give us a good tip,” Roland told the Columbus Dispatch.

At first, the kids thought it was a $10 bill. Then Elise took it and unfolded it. “I said ‘Whoa.’ ”

Their mom, Ann, said it was kind of surreal.

“We didn’t take any pictures, we didn’t get any autographs,” she said. “It happened so fast that we were kind of stunned. What a great guy, though, right? So generous and the kids will have a memory like that forever.”
