Nike’s new baseball glove: No ball and twine required

Nike is coming out with a new baseball glove which supposedly doesn’t require time to break in.

That is a pretty cool feature, and it may help offset that the new glove, called the Vapor 360, has neon yellow fingers and webbing made of something called flywire. It’s supposedly 20-percent lighter than a real — er, traditional — glove.

My guess: Yasiel Puig soon will be playing with one.

Anyway, this new glove, which is supposed to be out by Christmas and probably will cost an arm and a leg (because of the yellow fingers and the flywire), may also smooth out relationships between fathers and sons.

In the old days when your old man would buy you a new glove, he’d slick it up with neatsfoot oil and stick an old baseball in the pocket and wrap it all with twine; he wouldn’t let you use your new glove until it was properly broken in.

And if you were like me, you probably got upset with your old man for not letting you use your new glove until it was broken in.

Even if it was March and there still was snow on the ground.
