Race fans could see traffic delays Saturday

Las Vegas Motor Speedway and Nevada Department of Transportation officials are encouraging those attending Saturday night’s Qwik Liner Las Vegas 350 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race to be aware of a local highway construction project and possible traffic delays.

Because of lane restrictions on Interstate 15 from the U.S. Highway 95 interchange to Lake Mead Boulevard, race fans should plan on leaving home early and avoid the Spaghetti Bowl.

The race is set to start at 6:30 p.m. and one gate will open at noon with others opening at 3.

A free driver autograph session will be held from 6 to 7:30 p.m. today near Polly Esther’s nightclub in the Stratosphere.

Among the NASCAR drivers expected to attend are: Todd Bodine, David Starr, Ted Musgrave, John Andretti, Dennis Setzer, Justin Marks, Matt Crafton, Shelby Howard, Jeff Green, John Andretti, Terry Cook, Brian Scott, Marc Mitchell, Shane Sieg, Andy Lally and Donny Lia.

• GREGORY’S FAMILY TO ATTEND RACE — The family of the late Kim Gregory is expected to attend this weekend’s San Diego Bayfair unlimited hydroplane event, but its USA Racing Partners U-10 boat will not compete.

Gregory, a longtime Las Vegas resident and businessman, died at age 58 on Sept. 2, about a month after he was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.

Gregory was passionate about boat racing and involved his family in operating the team, which competed in the country’s premier boat racing series the past 10 years.

This season, USA Racing campaigned the U-10 with sponsorship from Ahern Rentals and Hoss Mortgage, and was fourth in the national standings.
