Arenacross World Finals come to MGM Grand

The day after the U.S. Open Supercross champion is crowned Saturday, the sport’s future stars will take over the MGM Grand Garden to compete in the seventh annual AMA Arenacross World Finals.

Sunday’s finals will attract about 400 of the country’s top male and female riders in ages ranging from 4 to over 35.

• DESERT RACING — Former Mint 400 and Parker 400 winner Tim Koch, 60, finished first in Saturday’s SNORE 250 north of Las Vegas. The resident of Ridgecrest, Calif., split the driving with Mike Childress and Jimmy Hook to record a winning time of 4 hours, 40 minutes, 45 seconds. …

The Mohave Off-Road Enthusiasts’ third annual all women’s Powder Puff race to benefit the Cedar Sinai Women’s Breast Cancer Research Center will take place Saturday in Barstow, Calif. For information: MoreRacing.net.

• DRAG RACING — Jeff Lingle won his first NHRA Jr. Dragster title Saturday in the Lightning division at Las Vegas Motor Speedway in the final event of the Short Line Express Markets Series season. Jacob Evans won the Thunder title, and Richard Kilgore was first in Novice.

Season champions: Chad Webber (Lightning), Cody Webber (Thunder) and Cody Parsons (Novice).

• BULLRING — The 20th annual Open Comp Fall Classic will take place Oct. 24 and 25 at the LVMS Bullring.

The event features a 150-lap Super Late Models race that will pay the winner $5,000. Also racing will be Modifieds, Late Models, Legends Cars and Bandoleros divisions.

• PHOTOGRAPHERS — Noted motor sports photographer David Allio will conduct a seminar on auto racing photography Oct. 24 at LVMS. Participants will have opportunities to photograph racing on the 1.5-mile speedway and the three-eighths-mile Bullring.
