Weidman-Silva tilt tops UFC 162 card on July 4 weekend in Las Vegas

LAS VEGAS REVIEW-JOURNAL

A middleweight title bout between Chris Weidman and champion Anderson Silva will headline the Ultimate Fighting Championship’s annual Independence Day weekend card in Las Vegas, the organization announced Wednesday.

The matchup will be part of UFC 162 on July 6, though the venue has yet to be determined.

UFC officials also announced Renan Barao will defend the interim bantamweight title against Eddie Wineland in the main event of UFC 161 in Winnipeg, Canada, on a card that will also include a light heavyweight bout between Dan Henderson and Rashad Evans.

While those events are taking shape, another event lost a major star.

Heavyweight Alistair Overeem is injured and has been forced to pull out of a scheduled bout against former champion Junior dos Santos at UFC 160 on May 25 at MGM Grand Garden.
