UFC’s Dana White runs downtown ‘Ulti-Man’ 5K race
Dana White, the president and omnipresent marketing man of Ultimate Fighting Championship, the Las Vegas-based billion-dollar MMA fight promotion outfit, showed up minutes before 8 a.m. for a 5K race in black shorts, a long-sleeved black shirt and a ball cap.
“This is a bad idea,” White joked to a reporter before the run, rolling out his trademark humor on Independence Day morning in downtown Las Vegas.
He looked like all the other 350 weekend warriors running the “Ulti-Man” race put on by UFC as part of its weeklong fight week activities.
Except his bib number bears the number “1,” and he’s trading high fives with runners on the course while dozens of UFC fans want a photo with White right after the finish line.
White even cracked a joke while running, saying he would offer $200 to a guy riding a bicycle along the race route so that he could finish the 3.1-mile event.
The 5K run staging area was in front of the Hogs & Heifers bar on 3rd Street in downtown. In true UFC form, coaches were instructing runners on kicks and other exercise moves at mile stations along the route.
UFC’s week of events includes a fan expo and a fight show at Mandalay Bay this weekend.
