MMA Rankings: Pettis finds new home

Former UFC lightweight champion Anthony Pettis broke a three-fight losing streak with a submission win over Charles Oliveira on Saturday.

It wasn’t necessarily the victory that caused a shakeup in the latest edition of the CoveringTheCage.com rankings as much as the fact it happened at featherweight.

Pettis was impressive in his first fight at 145 pounds and it looks like he is there to stay. So he is out of the top 10 at lightweight and immediately in the mix at featherweight this week.

The removal of one former lightweight champion opened the door for another to slide into the No. 10 spot at 155 pounds. Though Benson Henderson struggled in his Bellator main event bout on Friday, he was awarded a victory when Patricio “Pitbull” Freire suffered a broken leg.

Henderson will need a better performance should he want to beat Michael Chandler in their title bout on Nov. 19, but he does get the nod over Chandler based on his resume. It’s not exactly a firm grip on the spot.

Feel free to share any disagreements and stay tuned for the le reatest updates. Keep in mind, while the ranked weight classes are those usedby the UFC, fighters competing outside the organization are eligible.
