MMA Rankings: Garbrandt rises with yet another KO win

An epic rematch between Conor McGregor and Nate Diaz was the biggest story in mixed martial arts this week.

The biggest mover in the latest edition of the CoveringTheCage.com rankings, however, was the result of a spectacular performance on the preliminary card.

Cody Garbrandt remained unbeaten and firmly established himself as a top contender in the bantamweight division as a result of another devastating first-round knockout on the UFC 202 card at T-Mobile Arena.

Garbrandt surged up the 135-pound rankings and even passed his mentor Urijah Faber to take the No. 3 spot this week with his third consecutive knockout in the opening five minutes.

McGregor and Diaz retained their spots after McGregor avenged a March loss with a majority decision victory in the main event.

Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone finally broke into the top 10 after three wins at welterweight, but his stay may be short-lived. Cerrone said he hopes to return to lightweight for his next fight.

Feel free to share any disagreements and stay tuned for the latest updates. Keep in mind, while the ranked weight classes are those used by the UFC, fighters competing outside the organization are eligible.
