Jones retains UFC title vs. Teixeira

BALTIMORE – Jon Jones retained the Ultimate Fighting Championship light heavyweight title with a unanimous decision victory over Glover Teixeira in the main event of UFC 172 at Baltimore Arena on Saturday night.

Jones took control of the fight early on and dominated Teixeira, doing much of his damage with short elbows in the clinch against the cage.

The champion won all five rounds on all three scorecards.

Teixeira had won 20 straight fights since his last loss in 2005. It was the seventh consecutive successful title defense for Jones.

While Jones disposed of yet another contender, a new challenger may have emerged.

Anthony Johnson returned to the UFC after being released two years ago and destroyed Phil Davis from the opening bell on the way to a unanimous decision victory.

Also, Luke Rockhold submitted Tim Boetsch in the first round of a middleweight bout.
