Jedrzejczyk, Gadelha officially announced as ‘TUF’ coaches

Ultimate Fighting Championship women’s strawweight contender Claudia Gadelha will get her rematch against champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk, but not before the two serve as opposing coaches on Season 23 of “The Ultimate Fighter.”

UFC officials formally announced the pairing during Sunday night’s broadcast, though it had been rumored for several weeks.

The reality show will film in Las Vegas and begin airing April 20 on Fox Sports 1. Jedrzejczyk will defend the belt against Gadelha to headline the season finale on July 8 in Las Vegas, the day before UFC 200 at the new T-Moblile Arena. No venue has been announced for the July 8 event.

Jedrzejczyk and Gadelha met for the first time in December 2014, with Jedrzejczyk emerging with a split decision victory and a title shot. She took advantage by taking the belt from Carla Esparza and her popularity has soared ever since.

The reality show appearance is expected to further boost her star power.

Gadelha has been pushing for a rematch since losing the first fight. Her calls got even louder once Jedrzejczyk became champion. The two were thought to meet sooner, but Gadelha suffered an injury.

This season will feature both light heavyweight male and strawweight female competitors.
