Former Ultimate Fighting Championship light heavyweight champion Lyoto Machida improved to 2-0 since dropping to middleweight with a unanimous decision over Gegard Mousasi in the main event of a UFC card Saturday in Jaragua do Sul, Brazil.
Machida methodically picked Mousasi apart in winning all five rounds on two cards and four of the five on the third in the main event of UFC Fight Night 36.
Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza continued his climb up the middleweight rankings with a unanimous decision over Francis Carmont.
Souza, one of the top jiu-jitsu practitioners in the sport, secured a body triangle and controlled Carmont on the ground for nearly the duration of the first and third rounds. The former Strikeforce champion has won six straight fights, including all three since moving to the UFC.
Erick Silva made quick work of Takenori Sato in a welterweight bout, knocking him out in the first minute.
