Lindsey helps 51s split doubleheader with Sacramento

John Lindsey hit a pair of home runs to carry the 51s to a 10-4 victory over Sacramento as the teams split a doubleheader Friday night in West Sacramento, Calif.

The River Cats won the opener 5-3 on Jorge Piedra’s game-ending homer.

Lindsey hit a three-run shot to make it 5-0 in the third inning of the second game and added a solo shot in the fifth for a 6-3 Las Vegas lead.

The 51s put the game out of reach with a four-run seventh inning that was capped by Ken Huckaby’s two-run single.

In the opener, Las Vegas rallied to tie the game at 3 in the seventh but lost on Piedra’s two-run homer off Matt Riley (1-1) with one out in the bottom half.

The 51s had tied it on Wilson Valdez’s RBI single and a Marlon Anderson sacrifice fly. They had the go-ahead run at third base when Kazuhito Tadano struck out Delwyn Young to end the top of the seventh.

The Pacific Coast League series continues today with a 7:05 p.m. game.
