Las Vegas 51s’ rally comes up short against Fresno Grizzlies, 4-3
As Monday’s game wore on, the 51s had less and less success against Grizzlies right-hander Mike Hauschild.
They started the game with consecutive hits, but stranded the bases loaded. They followed that up by rallying for a run in second inning.
But starting with the last two outs in the second, Hauschild retired 17-of-18 — and at one point 10 in a row — in the Grizzlies’ 4-3 victory at Chukchansi Park.
The 51s had chances in both the eighth and ninth innings after Hauschild left to tie things up.
An eighth-inning rally, sparked by three walks, yielded two runs but after Ty Kelly led off the ninth with a single, second baseman Dilson Herrera bunted into a double play — mistakenly thinking the ball was foul and not running to first — stunting the rally.
The team left nine runners on base and hit 2-for-11 with runners in scoring position.
For the series, they hit just 5-for-41 (.122) with RISP.
They’ll now head to Sacramento to face the 2-10 River Cats. Both River Cats victories came against Las Vegas.
