John Kruk unwittingly texted with George Brett about ribs for two years

John Kruk unwittingly texted with George Brett about ribs for two years before realizing the George he’d been corresponding with was the Royals great.

Kruk, a former Las Vegas Star, tried to procure some ribs in Kansas City through a man named Mitch who was Brett’s friend.

“A couple years ago, Mitch says, ‘Hey, I’m gonna have George get in touch with you to set up getting ribs for you guys,'” Kruk said on ESPN’s “Sunday Night Baseball.” “So now for two years I’ve been texting back and forth with this George fellow, until yesterday when I finally realized that that George fellow was George Brett.

“Oh my goodness. What an embarrassment.”

Kruk finally realized it was Brett when he called Mitch to ask about the ribs and was told “George can’t be there because he has to present Mike Sweeney his (Royals) Hall of Fame jersey.”

“What a knucklehead,” Kruk said. “I’m such a people person, I don’t ask for last names.”

The story had a happy ending as Kruk finally crushed a rack of ribs.
