Jerry Rice went undercover for Lyft in San Francisco and no one recognized him

You never know who you’re going to get as a driver when you take a Lyft or Uber and some passengers in San Francisco recently got quite the Lyft driver — Jerry Rice.

Yeah, that Jerry Rice.

The former NFL wide reciever, who played most of his 20-year NFL career for the San Francisco 49ers and is widely considered to be the greatest wide reciever in NFL history, went undercover as a Lyft driver recently and almost no one recognized him — even the handful of passengers who said they were huge 49ers fans.

Rice did mask his appearance a little bit. He wore sunglasses and a beanie to make it harder to recognize him. He took off one of the three Super Bowl rings he won during his NFL career, and he currently has quite a full beard. Still, Rice’s voice is pretty recognizable.

Rice appeared to have a good time as a Lyft driver. At one point, he got out of the car and had a dance-off with the passenger before revealing who he was.

“I hope my passengers gave me good reviews, even though I did force some of them into impromptu dance sessions,” Rice told SF Gate.

Rice isn’t the first big-name athlete to go undercover for Lyft. Last September, Chicago Cubs third baseman Kris Bryant, who is from Las Vegas, went undercover for Lyft and drove passengers around Chicago.
