Indians rookie gets first MLB hit, trips over 1st base — VIDEO

Indians rookie Francisco Lindor will always remember that his first big-league hit would’ve been a double had he not taken a tumble rounding first base.
After Lindor ripped a ball from Tigers closer Joakim Soria toward the right-field corner Sunday, he was headed to second when he tripped and fell flat on the ground. The 21-year-old then bounced up quickly and retreated to first, pointing at Miguel Cabrera to jokingly place blame on Detroit’s first baseman for tripping him.
“It wasn’t him,” Lindor said. “I just had to pick on somebody and he was right there.”
Lindor’s tumble gave Cleveland something to smile about following an 8-1 loss.
“I thought it was a good hit,” Indians center fielder Michael Bourn told Cleveland.com. “Well, I thought it was a good hit until you-know-what happened. That gave us a good laugh, even though we lost. Hey, we’ve all done something stupid. I know I have.”
So has Manny Ramirez. In fact, the former Indians star mistakenly thought his first big league hit was a homer when it was actually a ground-rule double. Check out the video to see Ramirez break into a home-run trot after the ball bounced into the stands at Yankee Stadium. We didn’t know it at the time, but that was the first of myriad instances of Manny being Manny.
