Horse Racing: Today at Santa Anita, Oct. 18

Post Time 1 p.m.

Race 1 – 6 furlongs, Purse $24,000, Maiden claiming $30,000, 3-year-olds and up

5 Dragon Dance – Taking the biggest class drop in racing from MSW to maiden claiming; need not be much to graduate today.

1 Green Beret – Like his debut race but blew up last time at Del Mar; returns with blinkers on for Eric Kruljac.

Long Shot – 3 El Tovar

Race 2 – 6 furlongs, Purse $31,000, Claiming $25,000, 2-year-olds

1 Heyyoucan – Peter Miller has an uncoupled entry so caveat emptor; last two starts are fast enough to win tonight.

2 Tosheen – This is the lesser of the two Peter Miller horses; would not be shocked if he upset his stablemate.

Long Shot – 7 Snowmass Village

Race 3 – 1 mile (turf, rail at 24 feet), Purse $30,000, Starter allowance $40,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up

4 Buckingham Bull – Ran dead game last time in a class similar to these; tactical speed helps with the turf rail out 24 feet.

3 Cavalletta – Was overmatched in last try at Del Mar; these are her friends and a bounce back race is very possible.

Long Shot – 9 Joint Attempt

Race 4 – 7 furlongs, Purse $31,000, Claiming $25,000, 3-year-olds

5 I Don’t Care Who – Claimed by Ron Ellis specifically for this meet; gelding has won 2-of-4 career starts in Arcadia.

4 One Firm Cat – Chalk was a convincing winner over easier at Fairplex; has won two straight and hopes to maintain his form.

Long Shot – 2 Money Cannon

Race 5 – 1 mile (turf, rail at 24 feet), Purse $48,000, Maiden special weights, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up

8 Nicegirlsfnishlast – Ran well in last off a 9-month hiatus; will be tough if she improves one step off that return race.

5 Passionate Diva – Did everything but win last time in a gutsy effort; Edwin Maldonado for the sidelined Garrett Gomez.

Long Shot – 1 Shrilanka

Race 6 – 1 mile, Purse $17,000, Claiming $12,500, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up

1 Dolphin Shorts – Mike Mitchell is never afraid to drop down for a win; should save all the ground and bury these late.

4 Amulay – Last race surely looked like a test drive of sorts; Paul Aguirre turns to his main man Iggy Puglisi.

Long Shot – 7 Tiz Anna

Race 7 – 1 mile (turf, rail at 24 feet), Purse $36,000, Claiming $40,000, fillies, 3-year-olds

2 Bares Tripper – Drops down to the lowest class level of her career; Peter Miller has seen enough to know what he’s got.

5 Tebowing – Was scratched Thursday for this easier spot; Julio Canani is meandering through a dry spell of late.

Long Shot – 6 Explosive Argument

Race 8 – 7 furlongs, Purse $20,000, Maiden claiming $20,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up

7 Magic Number – Despite the sliding Beyers, she is the fastest horse in the field; bugboy is better than his 0-for-27 mark.

9 Renegade Ride – Tepid chalk in a wide open finale; taking the biggest class drop in racing from MSW to maiden claiming.

Long Shot – 2 John’s War

Best Bet – 1 Dolphin Shorts (race 6)

Santa Anita Thursday – Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 15/2/$14.00; Long Shots, 7/2/$28.40; Best Bet, 1/1/$5.60
