October 17, 2013 - 11:07 am
Today at Santa Anita Park
Post Time 1 p.m.
Race 1 – 6 furlongs, Purse $21,000, Claiming $12,500, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
4 Sassy Suances – Strong speed run in last, suspect similar tactics; big class drop can only help.
6 Sugar Spice – She too appears to have one way of going; if both go head and head, anything could happen late.
Long Shot – 2 She’s All Yours
Race 2 – 6 furlongs, Purse $23,000, Claiming $25,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
4 Tribal Dress – Been away 5-months, but showed some talent back when; Steve Miyadi taking the blinkers off tonight.
3 Hair On Fire – Dead late closer figures to sit a trip; will hope others decide to duel it out early on.
Long Shot – 1 Real Bright Boots
Race 3 – 1 mile (turf, rail at 24 feet), Purse $54,000, Allowance, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
5 Gulsary – The team of Tom Proctor and Gary Stevens is always tough; this one will be flying fast in the lane.
3 English Crossing – Consistent turfer has 10-of-13 in the money finishes; tactical speed to sit a nice trip throughout.
Long Shot – 1 Disko Dasko
Race 4 – 7 furlongs, Purse $20,000, Maiden claiming $20,000, 3-year-olds and up
11 Fly High – Beaten favorite in last ran one of the worst races of his career; for forgiving handicappers only. 7 Street Choir – Tepid chalk in an ugly looking race; key for me is Rafael Bejarano has taken the call.
Long Shot – 3 Deception
Free Race 5 – 1 mile (turf, rail at 24 feet), Purse $48,000, Maiden special weights, Fillies, 2-year-olds
11 Loufoque – Typical green debut, slow early but fast late; don’t mind the parking lot post as she has no early speed.
7 Cause Im a Bigshot – Ran OK in career debut for Mike Mitchell; adding blinkers on and top pilot in Julien Leparoux.
Long Shot – 13 Galehorn
Race 6 – 5 1/2 furlongs, Purse $30,000, Maiden claiming $50,000, Cal-breds, 2-year-olds
9 Johns Journey – Found his friends last time first for a price tag; also the addition of blinkers helped a lot.
5 Exponentially – Expect speedball tactics to try and steal off early; set a suicidal fast early pace last time out.
Long Shot – 1 Sir Barclay
Race 7 – 6 1/2 furlongs (turf, rail at 24 feet), Purse $36,000, Claiming $40,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
6 Plaza de Indias – Like the cutback in distance where she’ll trail early, fly late; her best races have come on grass.
9 Noice of the Crowd – Prefer the parking lot posts down the hillside turf course; sharp win for Hector Palma off the claim.
Long Shot – 10 Distant Image
Race 8 – 1 1/16th miles, Purse $20,000, Maiden claiming $20,000, 3-year-olds and up
4 Midnight Casanova – Top tandem of Rafael Bejarano and the maestro Jerry Hollendorfer; expect better on the class drop.
1 Tiz Futurity – Has has a million chances, but woke up for this talented bugboy; sits a trip and tries to rally late.
Long Shot – 6 Chocolatier
Best Bet – 5 Gulsary (race 3)
Santa Anita Monday – Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 19/6/$28.80; Long Shots, 9/2/$22.60; Best Bet, 1/1/$3.40
Santa Anita Totals – 211/51/$361.40; Long Shots, 100/16/$199.60; Best Bets, 12/4/$14.00
SIMULCAST PLAY OF THE DAY – #3 Hard Aces (3/1) in race 7 at Keeneland. For scoring purposes, we’ll make a hypothetical $2 win, place and show bet, $6 total. On Monday, Tapicat ran second at Belmont Park paying $3.70 to place and $3.10 to show. Stats – 162/108/$896.30; Follow him on Twitter: @richeng4propick
