HORSE RACING

TODAY AT HOLLYWOOD PARK

By Richard Eng

Post Time 1:20 p.m.

Race 1 – 1 1/2 furlongs (turf, rail at 10 feet), Purse $51,000, Optional claiming $40,000, 4-year-olds and up

Dadsalittleunusual – Logical chalk has run decent turf races this year without a breakthrough win; facing a miniature field.

Papanonie – Disappointed last time out, but his race two back is fast enough to upset these; could be a paceless looking race.

Long Shot – Startale

Race 2 – 7 furlongs, Purse $15,000, Maiden claiming $25,000, 3-year-olds and up

T. H. Praise – If this guy loses tonight, he’ll have run out of excuses; this is by far the worst group of horses he’s faced.

Si Se Puede – Speedy sort figures to set the early fractions; sometimes the lead counts because there is a no passing lane.

Long Shot – Iron Duke

Race 3 – 6 furlongs, Purse $14,000, Claiming $10,000, Cal-breds, Fillies and mares, 4-year-olds and up

Celtic Way – Provided a sharp win in last off the claim by Ellis; mare has tons of back class to run a repeat effort today.

Ever So Nice – Claimed by Mullins and this barn has been really cooking of late; barn may be well positioned for Del Mar.

Long Shot – Ghostly Girl

Race 4 – 1 1/16th miles, Purse $16,000, Maiden claiming $25,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up

Starlight Wish – Taking the biggest class drop in racing from MSW to claiming; will sit closer to the pace on the stretch out.

Risky Game – Ran a winning race for this low level last time out; big rider switch to Talamo takes 5-pounds off, try to catch.

Long Shot – She’s It

Race 5 – 6 furlongs, Purse $23,000, Claiming $25,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up

Miss Bordeaux – Been away 16-months, but has trained steadily up north for return; dropping from MSW to claiming, that helps.

Delphina – Impressed by her winning debut in a key race; Sise babies tend to improve with racing, this is a very good spot.

Long Shot – Bertha Jo

Race 6 – 5 1/2 furlongs, Purse $46,000, Maiden special weights, Fillies, 2-year-olds

Sayit – Had some early trouble in her debut, then found her best stride late under bugboy Talamo; cleaner trip helps a lot.

Freddie Ruth – Was bet in debut and showed early interest before retiring in the lane; Mullins babies also improve with racing.

Long Shot – Lower The Rate

Race 7 – 1 mile (turf, rail at 10 feet), Purse $39,000, Claiming $50,000, Fillies and mares, 4-year-olds and up

Trick a Cat – Logical chalk in a lot harder race than it seems; not sure you can throw anyone out, that makes it a rider’s race.

Tight Circle – She could be the speed that they’ll all need to catch in the lane; Smith has ridden well since returning to SoCal.

Long Shot – Abbey Cat

Race 8 – 5 1/2 furlongs, Purse $20,000, Maiden claiming $40,000, Cal-breds, 2-year-olds

El Vago – First time gelding has shown even more zip since the ultimate equipment change; Talamo had choices, ended up here.

Sandita – Logical chalk is taking the biggest class drop from MSW to claiming; his race two back is fast enough to beat these.

Long Shot – Zoomin Zabel

Best Bet – Celtic Way (race 3)

Hollywood Sunday – Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 17/3/$17.60; Long Shots, 7/1/$6.80; Best Bet, 1/0/$0

Hollywood Totals – 967/226/$1,502.40; Long Shots, 471/67/$718.40; Best Bets, 57/24/$102.80
