TODAY AT SANTA ANITA
By Richard Eng
Post Time 1 p.m.
Race 1 – 6 furlongs, Purse $23,000, Starter allowance $40,000, Fillies, 2-year-olds
Lower the Rate – Bolted to a sharp win in last and could be quicker than these too; may find a no passing zone field.
Cupid’s Kitty – Another who just graduated last time out; her prior races she sat off the pace, may do that in here.
Long Shot – Salt Castle
Race 2 – 1 1/8th miles (turf, rail at 15 feet), Purse $31,000, Claiming $32,000, 3-year-olds and up
Kurm – Frankel charge dropping to the cheapest class level of his career; need not be much to dispatch of these.
Chadlington – Everything Gomez is riding is live, very live; will save all the ground and try to run past them late.
Long Shot – Behind the Screen
Race 3 – 1 mile, Purse $19,000, Maiden claiming $32,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
Heartstrings – Should be dead fit upon exiting a couple of turf route races; tactical speed to sit a perfect trip.
Concinnous – Sight unseen for 3-months since Del Mar; she has some back class and tactical speed to play a part.
Long Shot – April Lady
Race 4 – 6 furlongs, Purse $12,000, Claiming $10,000, Cal-breds, 3-year-olds and up
Seven Nation Army – Claimed by Glatt from Mullins, has worked him twice since; need not be much to brush by late.
High Command – I’d like him more if he wasn’t starting from the 14 parking lost post; has speed to work his way over.
Long Shot – Dark Past
Race 5 – 1 mile, Purse $45,000, Maiden special weights, 2-year-olds
Rhetorically – Ground saving trip could make all the difference in here; improved a lot for Walsh in his second start.
Limestone Edge – Was slow to get into stride, but was moving well in the lane late; bred well enough to improve in here.
Long Shot – Forest Echoes
Race 6 – 6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $14,000, Claiming $12,500, 3-year-olds and up
Semi Lost – Just missed last time despite the massive drop in class; facing a very slow group, Mullins is favored again.
B L’s Danzig – Two even efforts in a row off a 1-year hiatus; class drop puts him into the thick of things today.
Long Shot – Enter Anon
Race 7 – 1 mile (turf, rail at 15 feet), Purse $50,000, Allowance, 3-year-olds and up
Proudinsky – Been away a year, he’s the classiest horse in the field, the question is how tight will Frankel have him.
Artist’s Tale – Ground saving trip could lead to a finish in the trifecta; tactical speed where he’ll sit midpack.
Long Shot – Optimer
Race 8 – 6 furlongs, Purse $18,000, Maiden claiming $32,000, Fillies, 2-year-olds
In Daddy’s Honor – Mitchell claim did a classic pop and stop first time out; big rider switch expect a stronger effort.
Homemade Brew – FTS from Ward who is one of the best in the business in this category; caveat, the sire was not a sprinter.
Long Shot – Our Storm
Best Bet – Semi Lost (race 6)
Santa Anita Thursday- Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 15/6/$28.40; Long Shots, 7/0/$0; Best Bet, 1/1/$3.00
