HORSE RACING

OAK TREE AT SANTA ANITA

By Richard Eng

Post Time 12:30 p.m.

Race 1 – 6 furlongs, Purse $15,000, Maiden claiming $25,000, 3-year-olds and up

Instant Action – Logical chalk breaks from a parking lot post; sliding down the claiming ladder since taken by O’Neill.

A Triple A – Cerin does a couple new things with him; he adds blinkers on and drops him in class from MSW to claiming.

Long Shot – Last Gamble

Race 2 – 1 1/8th miles (turf), Purse $35,000, Claiming $40,000, 3-year-olds and up

Stylin Cat – Third start off a 2-month sabbatical; suspect that Mullins can make a mountain out of clay with this claimer.

Seeking Answers – Tepid chalk in an incredibly wide open race for just 7-horses; wouldn’t be shocked to see a calvary charge.

Long Shot – Kurm

Race 3 – 7 furlongs, Purse $43,000, Maiden special weights, 2-year-olds and up

Colonel John – Second time out off a solid debut effort at Del Mar; if he improves a step, he’ll be double tough to catch.

Cohen Thebarbarian – Any 2-YO in training that cost $500k better be able to run some; Chatlos adding blinkers on today.

Long Shot – To the Penny

Race 4 – 6 furlongs, Purse $43,000, Maiden special weights, Cal-breds, 3-year-olds and up

Skimmetry – Second time out Frankel should show some improvement today; sire Skimming was a Frankel favorite for toughness.

Warren’s Scooter – Beaten favorite at Fairplex gets a parking lot post in here; tactical speed to take an early position.

Long Shot – Two Tone Roan

Race 5 – 1 1/16th miles, $250,000 Lady’s Secret, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up

Hystericalady – Seemingly easy spot after a crushing win at Monmouth Park; been given 6-weeks time to recuperate too.

Bai and Bai – Has really shown good form since Dollase has taken over her training; sits a trip and grinds it out late.

Long Shot – Fun Logic

Race 6 – 1 mile (turf), $250,000 Oak Tree Mile, 3-year-olds and up

Lava Man – Did not run an inch in the Pacific Classic; O’Neill opting to prep him on grass, better for his tender feet.

Out of Control – Was too close to a wicked fast pace last time; Baze job today is to take him back a little off the pace.

Long Shot – Get Funky

Race 7 – 6 furlongs, $300,000 Ancient Title Handicap, 3-year-olds and up

Greg’s Gold – Should see a perfect pace scenario to sit off the leaders and take over late; a top BC Sprint contender.

Bad Boy – Longest shot in the field is a wild card because he’ll be far back early, running fast late; race may implode.

Long Shot – Idiot Proof

Race 8 – 6 1/2 furlongs (turf), Purse $45,000, Allowance, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up

Lady Matilda – Lots of value for this dead late closer down the hillside turf course; big rider switch to Nakatani too.

Itsallgreektou – Tepid chalk has the best post in the race from the parking lot; flattered by Therun Thru win next out.

Long Shot – Time Tosay Goodbye

Race 9 – 6 furlongs, Purse $45,000, Optional claiming $32,000, Cal-breds, 3-year-olds and up

Bestdressed – Could be the kind of race to put a dent into pick 6 tickets; dead late closer has just missed at this level.

Lead Stealer – Like the turn back in distance from a 2-turn turf route for this; suspect will show more energy late.

Long Shot – Demon Inside

Race 10 – 6 1/2 furlongs (turf), Purse $23,000, Starter allowance $40,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up

Golden Venture – A forgiving handicapper can excuse her last miserable effort; she could sit a trip and be a menace late.

Kula Girl – Speedball may get loose on the lead; Baze best chance is to leave fast and try to bottom out the field.

Long Shot – Sportie’s Squeeze

Best Bet – Greg’s Gold (race 7)

Santa Anita Saturday- Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 20/5/$28.80; Long Shots, 10/0/$0; Best Bet, 1/1/$4.60

Santa Anita Totals – 153/31/$211.40; Long Shots, 78/11/$125.60; Best Bets, 9/3/$14.80
