HORSE RACING

TODAY AT DEL MAR

By Richard Eng

Post Time 2 p.m.

Race 1 – 1 mile, Purse $56,000, Maiden special weights, Fillies, 2-year-olds

Runforthemoneybaby – Mullins baby was second to a heralded stablemate, Comical Vacation; suspect no such talent in here.

Orientate Vice – Like the pedigree for a transition from French turf to Del Mar Polytrack; first time Lasix for U.S. debut.

Long Shot – North Rodeo

Race 2 – 6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $64,000, Optional claiming $62,500, 3-year-olds and up

El Manuel – Sharp second to the talented Noble Court in last; he may be best suited as a 1-turn closer than a 2-turn horse.

Bro Lo – If it’s a cloudy day and the speed is holding up, this speedball has a big shot; you need to be a weatherman too.

Long Shot – Absolute Glory

Race 3 – 6 furlongs, Purse $23,000, Maiden claiming $32,000, 2-year-olds

Deanoguska – Was bet down in debut for the Miller barn; adds blinkers on, he exits a bullet work, Espinoza remains loyal.

Tough Contender – Appears to be racing into condition for the younger Stute trainer; third race could be his best effort.

Long Shot – Ruud Boy

Race 4 – 1 mile, $85,000 Windy Sands Handicap, 3-year-olds and up

Buzzards Bay – This is a much better horse than he showed last time in the San Diego; can atone at much higher odds today.

Heatseeker – Did not run badly in the San Diego, is definitely one to fear; fall is Frankel time to win lots of races.

Long Shot – Plug Me In

Race 5 – 1 1/16th miles (turf), Purse $51,000, Claiming $50,000, Fillies, 3-year-olds

Miss Josiey Wales – Logical chalk was a clever claimed by Dutrow; top Eastern trainer has not started many at this meet.

Little Miss Wizzy – Leap of faith that Nakatani wouldn’t take a call on a dead piece; big class drop from live Gaines barn.

Long Shot – Lady Elizabeth

Race 6 – 6 furlongs, Purse $28,000, Claiming $20,000, 4-year-olds and up

Queen’s Image – When you’re trying to win a training title, you drop horses down to win; Mullins takes it to the limit.

Celtic Sword – 8-YO has started only 17 races lifetime, but he tries hard every time; is well suited for this modest class.

Long Shot – I’ll Prey For You

Race 7 – 6 furlongs, $100,000 I’m Smokin, Cal-breds, 2-year-olds

My Redeemer – Tread lightly in this most difficult stakes race; there are few throughouts in the second leg of the pick 6.

Raise the River – A maiden winning a 2-YO stakes?, just saw it with Golden Doc A; this figures to be a blanket finish.

Long Shot – Nevada Worrier

Race 8 – 1 mile (turf), Purse $51,000, Claiming $50,000, 4-year-olds and up

Ready More – More Mullins, if you can take it; this guy beat a similar group two races ago, beaten chalk is a square price.

Seeking Answers – Tepid chalk in another wide open race; has run two strong races off the claim by Sadler, needs some luck.

Long Shot – Imitation

Race 9 – 7 furlongs, $250,000 Del Mar Debutante, Fillies, 2-year-olds

Izarra – Love her pedigree, not only to win this race, but for the Kentucky Oaks future book; the more distance the better.

Spring Awakening – Logical chalk off a terrific MSW win; she beat Cal-breds and now faces open, strange things can happen.

Long Shot – Comical Vacation

Race 10 – 1 mile (turf), Purse $56,000, Maiden special weights, 3-year-olds and up

Push Send – Was heavily favored in debut, then had a rough trip last time out; third start could be a charm for Mandella.

Sir Lowry – Logical chalk from the very tough Frankel barn; made a winning move in debut, but showed his inexperience late.

Long Shot – Relentless Pursuit

Best Bet – Miss Josiey Wales (race 5)

Del Mar Sunday – Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 19/4/$44.40; Long Shots, 10/1/$8.20; Best Bet, 1/1/$5.60

Del Mar Totals – 648/158/$1,157.80; Long Shots, 327/40/$501.80; Best Bets, 38/18/$79.40
