HORSE RACING

TODAY AT HOLLYWOOD PARK

By Richard Eng

Post Time 1:20 p.m.

Race 1 – 1 1/16th miles (turf, rail at 20 feet), Purse $48,000, Maiden special weights, Cal-breds, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up

Storming Slew – Dead late closer gets extra ground to work with today; may be closer to the pace because there’s little speed.

Gemstone Jean – Tepid chalk ran a career best in her turf debut last time out; the question is whether she can repeat the race.

Long Shot – Powerofvoodoo

Race 2 – 5 furlongs, Purse $20,000, Maiden claiming $40,000, 2-year-olds

High Tok – FTS from O’Neill is part of an uncoupled entry; been working well, draws the coveted rail for this abbreviated sprint.

Easy Going Cecil – Showed some early speed in debut, now Miller adding first time Lasix and Nakatani; chance to improve a lot.

Long Shot – Tide Water Bobby

Race 3 – 1 1/16th miles, Purse $33,000, Claiming $32,000, Fillies and mares, 4-year-olds and up

Colominas – Has shown steady improvement since claimed by Abrams three races ago; tactical speed to sit a mid-pack trip.

Blue Cay – Beaten favorite has run well in both races over the Cushion track; fits well in this reduced class level.

Long Shot – Miss Lola La Dare

Race 4 – 6 furlongs (turf, rail at 20 feet), Purse $51,000, Optional claiming $62,500, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up

Windy – Frankel charge got a typical Solis ride, missed the break, made a huge middle move, then tired; should be tighter today.

Calamity Girl – Speedy sort figures to be arguing the early pace; exiting a small NoCal stakes, is not outclassed with these.

Long Shot – Spenditallbaby

Race 5 – 6 furlongs, Purse $49,000, Allowance, Cal-breds, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up

Unusual Beauty – Showed her usual speed stretching out on turf in last; exits the grass and shortening up, a winning recipe.

Swiss Blend – Been away 2-months after a miserable effort last time out; she figures to improve and hopefully at square odds.

Long Shot – Sunday Dress

Race 6 – 6 furlongs, Purse $41,000, Claiming $62,500, Fillies, 3-year-olds

Run Right Thru – Speed demon from the respected Sherman barn, may not look back; Court has been his main man during the meet.

Salsa Caliente – Just missed last time in a game try in Cushion track debut; is aggressively boosted in class, a positive sign.

Long Shot – Good N Muddy

Race 7 – 1 1/16th miles, Purse $55,000, Optional claiming $62,500, 4-year-olds and up

Sinister Minister – Was rated in last and didn’t take too kindly to it; expect Gryder to take over early and show who’s boss.

Heatseeker – Frankel charge should see an aggressive pace to sit off and rally into; he rides Talamo on a lot of live ones.

Long Shot – Scrummage

Race 8 – 5 1/2 furlongs, Purse $15,000, Maiden claiming $25,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up

Tuff N Lucky – Taking the biggest class drop in racing from MSW to claiming; has lots of speed and facing many slowpokes.

Rooney Doodle – Ward baby did a classic pop and stop in turf debut at Gulfsteam as the chalk; suspect she will move forward.

Long Shot – Sararah Jr.

Best Bet – Unusual Beauty (race 5)

Hollywood Wednesday – Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 15/5/$49.20; Long Shots, 8/0/$0; Best Bet, 1/1/$2.80

Hollywood Totals – 364/89/$590.00; Long Shots, 179/21/$232.00; Best Bets, 21/8/$32.40
