TODAY AT HOLLYWOOD PARK
By Richard Eng
Post Time 7:05 p.m.
Race 1 – 1 1/16th miles, Purse $48,000, Maiden special weights, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
Forest Miss – Finally showing improvement off a horrible career debut on turf last fall; tactical speed to sit a nice trip.
Flight to Cash – Baffert filly burned money last time as a beaten chalk at 4/5 odds; speed stretching out in distance today.
Long Shot – Oakhill Girl
Race 2 – 1 1/16th miles, Purse $24,000, Claiming $20,000, Fillies and mares, 4-year-olds and up
Annie Oakleaf – Logical chalk off two consistent, good efforts in last two starts; Baze can either send or sit still early.
Wild Sissy – Claimed by Koriner who spots her aggressively on the class rise; has enough tactical speed to protect her post.
Long Shot – Silber
Race 3 – 6 furlongs (turf, rail at 10 feet), $60,000 Bullet, 4-year-olds and up
Scottsbluff – Making his third start off a 10-month hiatus; he’s gotten speed crazy in 2007, but has shown some rateability.
Worchester – Frankel charge hasn’t shown a whole lot, as yet; the Solis-Frankel combo used to be red-hot, we’ll see today.
Long Shot – I’ll Prey for You
Race 4 – 6 furlongs, Purse $23,000, Claiming $20,000, Fillies, 3-year-olds
Remember Maggie – Speedball taking a small, but significant, drop in class today; must break sharp and control the early pace.
Looney Boone – Leap of faith that the Dutrow angle off the claim is as potent in SoCal as it is in NY; like that Talamo rides.
Long Shot – Cheryl’s Sidekick
Race 5 – 6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $20,000, Maiden claiming $40,000, Cal-breds, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
Warren’s Adventure – Second best last time despite running slower than she is capable of; chance to rebound at good odds.
Devine By Design – Tepid chalk has been away 11-months, but is taking the big class drop from MSW to claiming; bugboy Talamo rides.
Long Shot – Neutrality
Race 6 – 6 furlongs, Purse $25,000, Starter allowance $40,000, 3-year-olds and up
Fandabidoo – Slight edge in an open first level condition race; beaten chalk at Keeneland may be facing much easier in here.
Celtic Dreamin – Tepid chalk was an impressive maiden claiming graduate; Solis stays loyal despite the claim by Becerra.
Long Shot – Pressthepace
Race 7 – 6 furlongs (turf, rail at 10 feet), Purse $49,000, Allowance, 3-year-olds and up
Jitterbug Ball – Has improved a lot since being claimed by O’Neill; she is not speed crazy where she can’t sit just off the pace.
Ebony Light – I don’t typically pick a recent graduate, but he won with something left; like bugboy Talamo taking the weight off.
Long Shot – Bastione
Race 8 – 6 furlongs, Purse $15,000, Maiden claiming $25,000, 3-year-olds and up
Oro de Ole – O’Neill is never afraid to drop and win, even with a 9-month sabbatical; long sequence of works to prep for this.
Hobgoblin – Speedball gets the bugboy Talamo to break sharp and play catch me if you can; the lead is important in cheap races.
Long Shot – Tsetse Fly
Best Bet – Fandabidoo (race 6)
Hollywood Thursday – Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 14/3/$19.40; Long Shots, 6/3/$26.80; Best Bet, 1/0/$0
Hollywood Totals – 295/71/$465.60; Long Shots, 146/18/$209.00; Best Bets, 17/6/$27.20
