HORSE RACING

TODAY AT HOLLYWOOD PARK

By Richard Eng

Post Time 12:30 p.m.

Race 1 – 6 1/2 furlongs, $60,000 Magali Farms, Cal-breds, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up

Rare Exchange – Been second best twice, now gets Gomez for the money shot; figures to sit a perfect trip and explode past them late.

G. I. Betty – Beaten chalk was ridden passively by Dominguez and had no chance; Solis returns, he’ll sit and make one sharp move.

Long Shot – Alpine Jewel

Race 2 – 1 1/16th miles (turf), $150,000 Fran’s Valentine, Cal-breds, Fillies and mares, 4-year-olds and up

Memorette – She has lots of back class facing open company in the better stakes; tough as long as she hasn’t gotten sour from racing.

Nashoba’s Key – Her two wins visually are enough to make you love her chances; if she beats them today, she’ll challenge open company.

Long Shot – Dancing General

Race 3 – 7 furlongs, $150,000 B Thoughtful, Cal-breds, Fillies and mares, 4-year-olds and up

Getback Time – If your’re already tired of chalk from the early daily double, this gal could upset; she is getting sharper and sharper.

Somethinaboutlaura – Logical chalk will try to make it three in a row if she can get there; like Memorette, she has beaten open company.

Long Shot – Kalookan Dancer

Race 4 – 7 1/2 furlongs, $150,000 Tiznow, Cal-breds, 4-year-olds and up

Greg’s Gold – He’s the classiest sort in the race, but the extra distance is a serious question mark; lost to the very good Smokey Stover.

Areyoutalkintome – Turning back in distance for this elongated sprint; suspect will sit midpack and try to do his best in the lane.

Long Shot – Cigar Pal

Race 5 – 7 furlongs, $70,000 Warren’s Thoroughbreds, Cal-breds, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up

Tiz Next – If you’re looking for an upsetter, why not this gal off a sharp win; parking lot post won’t hurt in this elongated sprint.

Silver Z – Speedball will have his work cut out trying to clear this field; Talamo has such good hands, he can sit like a statue.

Long Shot – Sunday Dress

Race 6 – 1 1/8th miles (turf), $150,000 TVG Khaled, Cal-breds, 4-year-olds and up

Running Free – Fishing for a price in maybe the toughest race on the card; prepped in open company chasing a lone speed in Lang Field.

Super Strut – He’s turned in some nice efforts in state-bred company; his 7/2 price as the favorite tells you how hard the race is.

Long Shot – Hockey the General

Race 7 – 7 furlongs, $70,000 Barretts, Cal-breds, 3-year-olds and up

One Dixie – He’s been handled like fine china, but appears to have a huge upside; parking lot post will aid his stalking style.

Sixcess – Was ridden all wrong last time while going down the hillside; Valdivia will keep him covered up and try to make one run.

Long Shot – Swift Demand

Race 8 – 1 1/16th miles, $200,000 Melair, Cal-breds, Fillies, 3-year-olds

You Are the Answer – Showed me some real ability winning down the hill last time beating open company; I’ll take 10/1 odds all day.

Tiz Elemental – Exiting an overpowering win, if she repeats that she could crush these; should be able to sit a perfect trip.

Long Shot – Eastlake Avenue

Race 9 – 1 1/8th miles, $250,000 Snow Chief, Cal-breds, 3-year-olds

Pirates Deputy – Like others before him on Gold Rush day, has done well facing open company; no chance in the Sham chasing a slow pace.

Brave Sun – This is typical of the work Hollendorfer can do with a nice claim; has enough speed where Espinoza can sit a nice trip.

Long Shot – Tap It Light

Race 10 – 6 1/2 furlongs, $60,000 NTRA, Cal-breds, 3-year-olds and up

Vice Admiral – Gomez can end the day the way he started it, by winning another race; he figures to sit a trip and grind out the win.

Victory Joe – Speedball will have simple tactics in the finale, go as fast and as far as he can; exiting many bullet workouts.

Long Shot – Social Satire

Best Bet – Rare Exchange (race 1)

Hollywood Saturday – Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 18/6/$49.20; Long Shots, 9/0/$0; Best Bet, 1/0/$0

Hollywood Totals – 67/15/$113.80; Long Shots, 31/2/$74.00; Best Bets, 4/0/$0
