HORSE RACING

TODAY AT HOLLYWOOD PARK

By Richard Eng

Post Time 1:20 p.m.

Race 1 – 1 1/16th miles, Purse $51,000, Allowance, Fillies, 3-year-olds

Com Easy – Baffert filly is stretching out around 2-turns for the very first time; chance for a soft lead, may get brave.

Darling Mambo – Was in the uncomfortable position of leading the pack last time out; she prefers to run covered up.

Long Shot – Tremendous One

Race 2 – 5 1/2 furlongs, Purse $20,000, Maiden claiming $40,000, 2-year-olds

Zoomin Zabel – Came from off the pace in debut and found his best stride too late; if he improves a step he can win this.

Rivergrade Boy – Did a classic pop and stop in career debut; taking the biggest class drop in racing, may not stop today.

Long Shot – Market Exchange

Race 3 – 1 1/16th miles, Purse $27,000, Maiden claiming $62,500, 3-year-olds and up

James The Third – Like the move to bugboy Talamo for the money shot; knocking on the door, he showed he likes Cushion track.

Forward Commitment – Tepid chalk looked kind of ordinary last time in a very winable spot; running for a price tag will help.

Long Shot – Fortified

Race 4 – 7 1/2 furlongs, Purse $25,000, Starter allowance $40,000, 3-year-olds and up

Oliver Twisted – Was gelded two races ago and has run like a new horse, literally, since; the one to beat in a soft spot.

Twin Turbo – Rallied well in last but seemingly lacks a killer instinct; like that bugboy Talamo remains loyal for this.

Long Shot – Swing Out

Race 5 – 6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $31,000, Claiming $32,000, 3-year-olds

Conclave – Claimed by Carava and dropped suspiciously down in class; if he’s right, he’s got a big shot to upset these.

A Shore Thing – Another taking an enormous class drop into a do or die situation; Mullins barn is really struggling now.

Long Shot – Hot Flame

Race 6 – 5 furlongs, Purse $46,000, Maiden special weights, Cal-breds, 2-year-olds

Suit Yourself – Will try and match his big debut race, which is fast enough to beat these; value with low percentage rider.

Mix – Broke slow in career debut, then found his best stride too late; Espinoza taking over in second career start.

Long Shot – Warrens A P Strike

Race 7 – 1 1/16th miles, Purse $51,000, Allowance, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up

Silver Z – Speedball will try to take this wire to wire; won a 2-turn mile route race on the grass three races back.

Charming Legacy – Game win last time to graduate with honors; she steps up to face winners for the first time, gamely.

Long Shot – Worthy Cause

Race 8 – 6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $14,000, Claiming $10,000, Fillies and mares, 4-year-olds and up

Kelven’s Verbatim – Mare has won 2-of-3 recent starts, which classifies her as a star with these; will be grinding late.

Cotorra – Taking an enormous drop in class to face a very slow group; O’Neill is never afraid to drop down for the win.

Long Shot – The Case Queen

Best Bet – Oliver Twisted (race 4)

Hollywood Monday – Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 18/3/$18.00; Long Shots, 10/1/$9.80; Best Bet, 1/0/$0

Hollywood Totals – 450/107/$690.20; Long Shots, 222/29/$324.40; Best Bets, 26/12/$47.80
