TODAY AT SANTA ANITA PARK
By Richard Eng
Post Time 1 p.m.
Race 1 – 2 furlongs, Purse $36,000, Maiden special weights, 2-year-olds
Remember Boffi – Has the pedigree to be ultra quick from the gate; Kitchingman is underrated versus Ward and Chipman, but quite skilled.
Miss Maisy – The one race experience could be the factor putting her over the top; she is a filly facing boys, but that happens with 2-YOs.
Long Shot – Burn the Page
Race 2 – 1 mile, Purse $55,000, Optional claiming $40,000, Fillies and mares, 4-year-olds and up
Yearly Attitude – Gets big time class relief and should be able to settle into a comfortable trip; the Mig will not be in a hurry early.
Easy Obsession – Tepid chalk ran a career topper last time, seems to be a major bounce candidate; note the Mig opted to ride Yearly Attitude.
Long Shot – Karlee’s Kitten
Race 3 – 6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $22,000, Claiming $20,000, Fillies and mares, 4-year-olds and up
Naughtylilhottie – Baffert cull is dropping way down in class, is almost a sure bet to be claimed; bugboy Talamo will nurse her early speed.
Hard Woman – Figures to go eyeball to eyeball with Naughtylilhottie; Sherman is awful tough, no shock if she gets the better of the chalk.
Long Shot – Ladies Bet
Race 4 – 6 furlongs, Purse $22,000, Maiden claiming $40,000, Cal-breds, 4-year-olds and up
Awesome Graf – Taking the biggest class drop in racing from MSW to claiming; short priced chalk has the edge of facing a very slow field.
My City by the Bay – Will see plenty of support due to a good debut placing; has worked well since and figures to scoot out early again.
Long Shot – Herbie Love
Race 5 – 1 1/8th miles (turf, rail at 15 feet), Purse $48,000, Maiden special weights, Fillies, 3-year-olds
Just Knock – Short priced chalk had an awful stretch run or surely would have won; will offer no value, but is easily the one to beat.
Ainanaa – Outran her high odds in her U.S. debut when losing a dirty head bob; stretching out today, she figures to have a nice upside.
Long Shot – The Last Inch
Race 6 – 7 furlongs, Purse $34,000, Claiming $32,000, 3-year-olds
R. Beau – Tactical speed to protect his inside position in an elongated sprint; he seems to be improving, while others are regressing.
Ymustichasethecat – Paired up sharp wins, now climbs up the claiming ladder another rung; he has tactical speed to sit a perfect trip.
Long Shot – Scoonerwharfbardog
Race 7 – 1 1/8th miles (turf, rail at 15 feet), Purse $45,000, Claiming $50,000, 4-year-olds and up
Courtnall – Entry is a slight favorite in the days toughest heat; gets some class relief and a ground saving post, will need a trip.
Seeking Answers – Consistent sort has proven he can compete at this class level; Becerra adding blinkers on and main man Espinoza.
Long Shot – Denied
Race 8 – 6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $20,000, Maiden claiming $32,000, Fillies, 3-year-olds
Stompin Gia – I don’t see a whole lot in the field, so we could do worse than a well meant Mullins FTS; watch the tote for action.
Inga From Sveedan – Good horses usually have good names, you be the judge; ran OK in career debut, need not be much to defeat these.
Long Shot – Mood Winner
Best Bet – Awesome Graf (race 4)
Santa Anita Wednesday – Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 16/2/$14.60; Long Shots,
8/0/$0; Best Bet, 1/0/$0
Santa Anita Totals – 1,269/334/$2,192.20; Long Shots, 635/71/$942.00;
Best Bets, 73/30/$122.20
