HORSE RACING

TODAY AT HOLLYWOOD PARK

By Richard Eng

Post Time 12:30 p.m.

Race 1 – 7 1/2 furlongs, Purse $10,000, Claiming $8,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up

Beau Geni – Speed is a valuable asset among cheap horses; the key is in a no passing zone race, you like to be in front.

Ten Tenors – Mullins cull may do just enough in the stretch run to squeeze out a victory; Tyler Baze continues to heat up.

Long Shot – Guest

Race 2 – 1 1/16th miles, Purse $44,000, Maiden special weights, Cal-breds, 2-year-olds

Harlene – Could be the shortest priced favorite on tonight’s card; gets enormous class relief from the Cal Cup for this.

Fantasy Free – Like the stretch out in distance because he figures to exhibit a lot more early speed; draw a line thru last.

Long Shot – Cloudbreaker

Race 3 – 6 furlongs, Purse $17,000, Claiming $16,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up

Dee’s a Legend – Just missed in a sharp try, now claimed by Carava; like that Nakatani remains loyel despite barn change.

Early Anna – Continues sliding down the claiming ladder to this low level; her race two back is fast enough to crush these.

Long Shot – Your Quote

Race 4 – 6 furlongs, Purse $17,000, Maiden claiming $32,000, 3-year-olds and up

Carman – Taking a huge class drop, has the right running style to benefit from an expected speed duel; along in time.

Stormy Woods – For Baffert to drop this colt from MSW to claiming after only one race is not a good sign; will be overbet.

Long Shot – Montalvo

Race 5 – 6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $12,000, Claiming $10,000, 3-year-olds

Asteri – Was bottled up completely in last and ran better than looked; he moves out to the parking lot to stalk the pace.

Instant Action – Conclave will be heavily favored, but is worth try to beat; he’s run three very hard races for Mitchell.

Long Shot – Holy Lark

Race 6 – 6 furlongs, Purse $34,000, Claiming $50,000, 3-year-olds and up

Exceeding – Hard to accept short odds in a race this tough; ran too good to lose in last, now will go off a square price.

High Chateau – Dynamite duo of Gomez and Mullins team up on this in form closer; suspect he’ll be taken back for one run.

Long Shot – Midwesterner

Race 7 – 1 1/16th miles (turf, rail at 20 feet), Purse $58,000, Optional claiming $100,000, 3-year-olds and up

Chattahoochee War – Bejarano is one of those naturals that gets more run out of horses; Frankel taking the blinkers off.

Toasted – Logical chalk in a tight fit; Gomez is getting all the choice mounts he wants, he depresses the odds a lot too.

Long Shot – New Export

Race 8 – 6 furlongs, Purse $20,000, Maiden claiming $40,000, Cal-breds, Fillies, 2-year-olds

Spanish Heat – Sometimes you handicap the rider as much as the horse; Gomez shows up on an O’Neill cull in a cheap race.

Mud Sweat n’ Tears – Same deal as with Spanish Heat, Bejarano taking the call from Sherman; need not be much horse.

Long Shot – Quid Non

Best Bet – Harlene (race 2)

Hollywood Wednesday- Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 16/4/$21.20; Long Shots, 8/1/$3.80; Best Bet, 1/0/$0

Hollywood Totals – 270/58/$375.20; Long Shots, 136/20/$268.40; Best Bets, 16/5/$18.60
