High school sports postponed in Las Vegas, school district announces

All Southern Nevada high school sports events Monday have been postponed following the overnight shooting near Mandalay Bay, Clark County School District announced Monday.
“Many parents have inquired about the status of school today following last night’s tragedy on The Strip,” CCSD said in a release. “We want you to know that school will be in session today for all CCSD schools. Safekey programs will operate on their normal schedules. However, all after school sports and activities have been canceled for today.”

Donnie Nelson, the assistant director of the Nevada Interscholastic Activities Association, said all of Monday’s events are expected to be postponed to later in the week.
The biggest event scheduled for Monday were boys and girls region tennis tournaments. There were 12 boys matches and six girls matches scheduled, which are expected to be moved back to Tuesday, Nelson said. The tournament final for all regions is scheduled for Thursday.
There were also supposed to be regular season contests in boys and girls soccer, and girls volleyball. In all, 45 high school athletic contests were postponed. It also includes practices.
