Hicks clicks late for Desert Shields

Cheyenne’s Taryn Hicks scored 12 points and made two free throws down the stretch Friday to help the Desert Shields hold off a fourth-quarter rally and defeat host Silverado 51-47 in girls high school basketball.
Silverado trailed by 20 points at halftime, but got within 14 at the end of the third quarter and outscored Cheyenne 17-7 in the final period before their comeback fell short.
Sabrina King scored 10 points for the Desert Shields.
Mikayla Thielges had 20 points for the Skyhawks.
• Green Valley 84, Canyon Springs 28 — At Canyon Springs, Jazmine Jarvis scored 26 points and Victoria Naylor 21 as Green Valley rolled.
Daryl Coleman led Canyon Springs with 10 points.
• Durango 74, Cimarron-Memorial 29 — At Durango, Lindy La Rocque scored 24 points and Mia Bell 20 to lead the Trailblazers.
Durango outscored the Spartans 20-2 in the second quarter to pull away.
Austin Rarere hit three 3-pointers on her way to 15 points, and Cherelle Hicks pulled down nine rebounds for the Trailblazers.
Catherine Wyre had 13 points for Cimarron.
• Legacy 57, Spring Valley 37 — At Spring Valley, Breanna Watkins led all scorers with 16 points as the Longhorns opened a 33-8 halftime lead.
Kindrea Poole and Jackie Barton each scored 14 points for Legacy.
Breanna Mills paced Spring Valley with 11 points.
• Las Vegas 40, Coronado 28 — At Coronado, Amber Kelley scored six of her game-high 13 points in the fourth quarter to lead the Wildcats.
Emily Turkington scored 10 for Las Vegas.
• Mojave 51, Basic 47 — At Mojave, Chelsea Hopkins scored 12 of her 25 points in the third quarter to help the Rattlers edge Basic.
Hopkins also had seven rebounds and seven assists.
Michaela Thomas led the Wolves with 19 points, and teammate Marquichea Burns scored 11.
• Valley 59, Del Sol 17– At Del Sol, Nicholette Corona had a game-high 14 points as the Vikings beat the Dragons.
Vanessa Corona had 11 points and Shray Jackson 10 for Valley, which outscored Del Sol 36-4 in the second half.
• Spanish Springs 86, Clark 34 — At Clark, the Chargers couldn’t overcome a scoreless second quarter by the Sparks team.
Joanna Umana and Chantelle Robinson each scored 16 points for Clark.
• Tech 62, Boulder City 42 — At Tech, Mechel’la Logan had 15 points to lead a balanced attack for the Roadrunners.
Mecha Phillips had 15 points for Tech, and Chalon Reynolds and Cheryl Harless each scored 12.
• Faith Lutheran 44, Battle Mountain 24 — At Winnemucca, Meghann Smith scored 16 points as the Crusaders won for the second straight day in the Lowry Tournament.
• Centennial 81, Carson 13 — At Carson City, Alexis Byrd scored 24 points, and the Bulldogs never allowed the Senators to score more than four points in any quarter.
Rashawnda Gray scored 16 points for Centennial.
• Spanish Springs 60, Rancho 53 — At Rancho, Khalia Branch scored a game-high 27 points, but the Rams were unable to hold a late lead.
Jordan Rogers scored 27 points for the Cougars.
• Shadow Ridge 47, Sierra Vista 42 — At Sierra Vista, Elisha Hensey had 17 points and seven steals, and Cheyana Slocum and Jessica Scarpati each scored 10 in the Mustangs’ victory.
