Area golf courses singled out

Five Las Vegas golf courses were listed among the top 50 of the 2009 Golf World Reader’s Choice Awards. Bali Hai Golf Club was the highest ranked local course, coming in at No. 6. It was followed by Royal Links Golf Club, No. 13; TPC Las Vegas, No. 27; Bear’s Best Golf Club, No. 47; and Desert Pines Golf Club, No. 50.

In addition to the five Las Vegas courses, Wolf Creek Golf Club in Mesquite also made the list.

 

Tommy Bahama tournament to benefit First Tee

Tommy Bahama’s inaugural Desert Lights Classic Charity Golf Tournament will be held March 23 at TPC Summerlin. The tournament will benefit The First Tee of Southern Nevada, a program for youth that promotes character development and life-enhancing values through the game of golf.

Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. and the tournament gets under way at 10 a.m. with a shotgun start. The format is four person shamble.

Entree fee for individual players is $300 and includes admission to the tournament awards dinner to be held at Tommy Bahama’s Tropical Cafe at Town Square Las Vegas. Package deals are also available.

WSNGA’s Amateur Championship set for April 4-5

The Women’s Southern Nevada Golf Association’s Amateur Championship will be played April 4-5 at Palm Valley Golf Club in Sun City Summerlin. The format is 36-hole stroke play. A $120 entry fee includes green fees, cart, range balls, awards luncheon and prizes.

Entries are open to women with a verifiable handicap administered by the Southern Nevada Golf Association. There is no handicap index limit, however, the maximum course handicap will be 36.

Awards will be based on gross and net scores, and at least one-third of the field will be paid.

Mayor Goodman to host tournament

Dunkin’ Donuts is the presenting sponsor of the seventh annual Drive Fore Literacy With Oscar golf tournament, set for April 17 at the Silverstone Golf Club. Mayor Oscar Goodman will host the golf tournament that funds Newspapers in Education in the Clark County School District.

Registration is at 6:30 a.m., followed by a 7:30 a.m. shotgun start. The cost is $600 per foursome. Entries are due April 6 and forms can be downloaded at www.lasvegasnie.com.
