Fredette likely to land with Bulls
Jimmer Fredette is likely to become a Chicago Bull sometime this weekend.
Sources close to the process told ESPN.com on Thursday that “serious mutual interest between the sides has made Fredette’s landing with Chicago look increasingly likely.”
The 6-foot-2-inch guard finalized a contract buyout agreement with the Sacramento Kings on Thursday, Kings’ general manager Pete D’Alessandro announced.
“This was a very tough decision, but we’re confident that the agreement reached today represents the most productive path forward, both for Jimmer and the Kings,” said D’Alessandro in a statement.
Cleveland and Memphis were also rumored to have a high level of interest in Fredette, with Memphis dropping out after claiming New York Knicks guard Beno Udrih off waivers. Fredette’s desire to go to a playoff team in the East Conference makes Chicago his most likely landing spot.
The Bulls are not allowed to sign Fredette to a contract until he officially clears waivers on Saturday at 5 pm. ET. Assuming Fredette can complete a deal by midnight on Saturday, he will be eligible to appear in the playoffs with his new team.
Fredette was the 10th overall pick in the 2011 NBA Draft out of Brigham Young University. He was the Mountain West Player of the Year and Consensus National Player of the Year in 2011.
Fredette was averaging 5.9 points and 1.5 assists in 11.3 minutes per game over 41 games coming off the bench for Sacramento this season.
