Foothill falls to California school in tournament final

Crystal Hernandez pitched a three-hitter and struck out eight as Sylmar (Calif.) downed Foothill 11-1 in four innings Wednesday to win the Bronze Bracket of the Fred Davison Memorial Tournament at West Flamingo Park.
Hernandez also went 3-for-3 with two doubles and two RBIs, and she started the scoring in the bottom of the first with a single that scored Alex Alba.
Valerie Prendiz hit a grand slam to highlight a seven-run first inning for the Spartans.
“It was a good tournament with excellent competition,” Sylmar coach Melissa Snee said. “We came out playing slow but put it together in the end. I was impressed with the way we improved throughout the week.”
Alianna Telles was 3-for-3 with two runs for Sylmar, and Prendiz finished 1-for-3 with five RBIs and one run.
Rosie Ritchie was 2-for-2 for Foothill.
• Foothill 2, Cathedral Catholic 0 — Shantel Straily threw a five-hitter with three strikeouts as the Falcons downed the Dons in the Bronze semifinals.
Amy Austin had a triple for Foothill.
• Eastlake (Calif.) 10, Palo Verde 9 — The Titans scored three runs in the bottom of the ninth to defeat the Panthers in the Copper Bracket title game.
Cailey Bixman was 3-for-3 with a double and four RBIs for Palo Verde, which rallied from a 6-0 deficit to tie the game in the top of the seventh.
• Palo Verde 3, Monte Vista (Calif.) 2 — Amanda Montalto went 2-for-3 with a homer and a double to lead the Panthers past the Monarchs in the Copper semifinals.
Brittany Martin went 3-for-4 with a run for Palo Verde.
• Sierra Vista 11, North (Calif.) 4 — The Lions overcame a four-run first inning by the Stars to win the consolation game.
Desiree Laswell pitched 6 2/3 innings of scoreless relief and went 4-for-4 with a double and an RBI for Sierra Vista.
Tayler Aleman was 2-for-4 with a home run and four RBIs for the Lions, and Brittany Wright added two hits and an RBI.
• Basic 5, Clark 1 — Carissa Kohley went 2-for-4 with a triple and an RBI to help the Wolves down the Chargers in a consolation game.
Megan Feher threw a two-hitter with four strikeouts to get the victory.
• Durango 10, Imperial (Calif.) 2 — Melissa Bako was 2-for-3 with a triple, a home run and two RBIs to lead the Trailblazers to the win in a consolation game.
D.J. Richardson was 2-for-3 with a home run for Durango.
• Birmingham (Calif.) 8, Cimarron-Memorial 6 — The Spartans rallied for five runs in the seventh but couldn’t catch the Patriots.
Chelsea Williams was 2-for-3, including a seventh-inning grand slam, for Cimarron.
• Faith Lutheran 7, Mount Miguel (Calif.) 3 — Angie Miller went 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, a run and an RBI to help the Crusaders win the consolation game.
