BYU suspends LB Sione Takitaki for rest of season

Brigham Young linebacker Sione Takitaki has been suspended for the remainder of the season due to an undisclosed violation of team rules.

Takitaki, a sophomore, has been in constant trouble since joining the program. He was dismissed from the team during the summer of 2014 for fighting in the school dorms, and was later reinstated by a vote from his teammates.

This past summer, Takitaki was charged with two counts of misdemeanor theft for stealing apparel from BYU‘s track and women’s soccer teams. He recently accepted a plea deal in which he admitted guilt on one count while the other was dismissed.

He received a suspended 180-day jail sentence, 12 months probation and a $680 fine.

Takitaki had 21 tackles and 3.5 sacks in six games this season.
