Ahmed’s kick in second OT rescues Gaels after they waste 10-point lead

Ramiz Ahmed hit a 28-yard field goal in the second overtime period to give Bishop Gorman a 34-31 win over Santa Margarita (Calif.) on Friday night.

Gorman (2-1) led 31-21, but the Eagles scored 10 points in the final 5:02 of regulation to force overtime.

K.J. Costello threw a 21-yard TD pass, his fourth of the game, to Jeremy McNichols to cut the lead to 31-28 with 5:02 left. Costello then drove the Eagles to the Gorman 15, and Alex Ury’s 32-yard field goal with five seconds to play tied the game and forced overtime.

Santa Margarita (0-2) appeared to win the game on its first overtime possession when Costello lofted a pass to Grant Clancy for an apparent touchdown. But officials ruled Clancy didn’t have control of the ball, and Ury missed a pair of overtime field-goal attempts.

The Gaels lined up for a field-goal try on their first possession in overtime, but a bad snap forced Ahmed to try to run, and he was tackled for a loss.

Randall Cunningham completed 15 of 25 passes for 208 yards and a touchdown, and also had 23 carries for 102 yards to lead Gorman. Daniel Stewart had 26 carries for 114 yards and a TD, and Dylan Weldon returned an interception 42 yards for a score for the Gaels.

Costello completed 26 of 43 passes for 438 yards and four TDs, but was 0-for-4 passing in overtime. Kyle Sweet hauled in 15 passes for 288 yards and three TDs, including a 95-yarder in the first quarter.

■ Mountain View 58, Calvary Chapel 0 — At Calvary Chapel, after a sluggish start, the Saints (1-1, 1-0) exploded for 31 second-quarter points to blow out the Lions (0-2, 0-1).

Bernard Williams scored on runs of 5 and 63 yards during the second quarter for Mountain View, which also got a 13-yard touchdown run by Ian Locke and a 17-yard scoring run by Jacob Duldulao during the quarter. Locke rushed for 112 yards on 10 carries.

Matt Larson’s 2-yard touchdown run in the first quarter allowed Mountain View to take a 7-0 lead, but penalties hampered the Saints until the second-quarter uprising.

Nick Jenkins returned an interception 55 yards for a touchdown early in the third quarter for Mountain View.

Lions’ freshman Quentin Ivey led the team with 31 yards rushing and 20 yards receiving.

■ Agassi Prep 25, Lincoln County 8 — At Panaca, junior running back Kobe Williams rushed for three touchdowns, including a 68-yarder, to propel the Stars (2-0, 1-0 Division III Southern) past the Lynx (0-2, 0-1).

Williams has seven touchdowns in the Stars’ first two games.
