December 8, 2007 - 10:00 pm
Sean Tesoro of Baldwin High School in Wailuku, Hawaii — one of four football recruits visiting UNLV this weekend — orally committed Friday to play for the Rebels.
Tesoro (6 feet 3 inches, 280 pounds) is a three-star Scout.com recruit who is rated as the nation’s No. 44 offensive guard. He also had received a scholarship offer from Hawaii.
Other recruits visiting are middle linebacker Travis Trickey (6-4, 225) of Round Valley High School in Springerville, Ariz.; quarterback/safety Chris Jones (6-3, 180) of Shadow Ridge High; and running back Imari Thompson (5-10, 198) of Cedar Hill (Texas) High.
Trickey, a two-star prospect by Scout.com, already had committed to UNLV.
Jones is a two-star prospect whose late father, Kirk, is the Rebels’ No. 3 career rusher, gaining 2,656 yards from 1983 to 1986.
Thompson is a one-star recruit who is being looked at by Air Force, Navy, Army, Southern Methodist and Baylor.
• FOOTBALL HONORS — Senior linebacker Beau Bell won four awards at the UNLV banquet: defensive Most Valuable Player, Bill “Wildcat” Morris Most Inspirational Award, “Doc” Tobler Senior Award and Captains Award.
Sophomore wide receiver Ryan Wolfe was the offensive MVP, and senior kicker Sergio Aguayo and senior punter Brian Pacheco shared the top special teams honor.
• LADY REBELS FALL — UNLV (2-6) fell behind host UC Riverside (2-5) 18-1 and never recovered in a 61-49 nonconference basketball loss.
Sequoia Holmes, the nation’s third-leading scorer at 24.4 points per game, was held scoreless in the first half and finished with 16 points.
