Fisher, Healy best of softball players

Basic senior center fielder/pitcher Aaren Fisher, who batted .636 with seven home runs and 32 RBIs this spring, was named the Sunrise Region’s Most Valuable Player by the region’s softball coaches.

Fisher also posted a 7-5 mark with a 2.44 ERA.

Las Vegas High, which went 12-0 to win the Northeast Division, swept other top honors. Tajia Law was named the Most Valuable Pitcher, and Tresa Schilder took the Coach of the Year honor. Law posted a 7-3 mark to help the Wildcats this season.

The Sunset Region’s coaches did not select an all-region team, choosing only all-division teams. Centennial’s Teresa Healy was named the Northwest Division Most Valuable Player, and Shadow Ridge’s Mandy Harmon was the league’s Most Valuable Pitcher. Centennial’s Mike Livreri took the Northwest coaching honor.

Southwest Division champ Sierra Vista swept that league’s top honors. Kelsey McCoy was named the Most Valuable Pitcher, Kristin Delahousaye the Most Valuable Player and Jerome Streets Coach of the Year.

* SOCCER AWARD — Palo Verde forward Ashleigh Shoughro, who led the Panthers to their second consecutive Southern Nevada girls soccer title, was named the Gatorade Nevada Player of the Year.

Shoughro, who has signed with San Diego, had 46 goals as a senior.

* ALL-STAR GAMES — There will be three senior all-star basketball games today at Chaparral.

A girls game at 3:30 p.m. will feature the all-division selections from the Sunrise Region against the all-division selections from the Sunset.

At 6:30, the boys all-division picks will square off in a Sunrise-versus-Sunset format.

In between, there will be an exhibition game at 5 for other graduating senior boys to showcase their talents.

The annual Green Valley Rotary Club High School All-Star soccer games will be May 23 at Foothill.

The games feature the top seniors from the Sunrise Region against the best from the Sunset.

The girls game is set for 5 p.m., with the boys game at 7.

* SIGNINGS — Three area softball players recently signed with colleges. Green Valley catcher Lindsey Headley, who batted .461 this spring, signed with Division I Southern Utah.

Centennial’s Bre Egge and Coronado’s Berlynn Bagley signed with Division II Dixie State College.

Egge hit .482 this spring. Bagley batted .435 and posted a 6-2 mark with a 3.03 ERA.
