Ex-Green Valley golfer Kaui, now at Oklahoma, leads at NCAA women’s championships

Oklahoma’s Alexandra Kaui, a former Green Valley High School standout, fired a second-round 3-under 67 on Wednesday to take a three-stroke lead at the NCAA women’s golf championships in Tulsa, Okla.

Kaui, who started the day in fourth place after shooting 68 in the first round at Tulsa Country Club, was at par until sinking a 118-yard approach shot on the par-4 15th hole for an eagle. Kaui, the Big 12 Freshman of the Year, also birdied No. 17 en route to her lowest round of the spring to help the Sooners (15-over 575) retain their three-stroke lead over second-place Duke in the 24-team field.

UNLV junior Dana Finkelstein, who is playing as an individual, carded a 7-over 77 and is in an eight-way tie for 74th place at 12-over 152 in the 126-player field.

Michigan State’s Alyssa Ferrell and Stanford’s Lauren Kim are tied for second at 2-under 138, and Southern California’s Doris Chen is third at 139.
