Ex-ballplayer Eric Byrnes makes spectacular catch of foul ball — VIDEO

Eric Byrnes played 11 seasons in the major leagues, and one year he hit 26 homers for the Diamondbacks. But what I seem to remember most about him is that sometimes he would chase fly balls in the outfield with a certain abandon that was reckless.

He’s still doing it.

This is a video (below) of Brynes making a spectacular catch of a foul ball at Yankee Stadium on Thursday night.

Not only did Byrnes make an incredible catch, he started pumping his fist, like any normal Joe who paid for those seats would do.

Marlins pitcher Dan Haren texted that the whole Miami dugout heard Byrnes exult after he made the catch.

“Guys said ‘look at this clown going nuts cause he caught a ball.’ I said ‘that’s Eric Byrnes’ ” Haren wrote on his Twitter account of his former Arizona teammate.

Even more impressive: Brynes had the foresight to deposit his young son — and his beer — in a safe place before diving over another fan to make the catch.
