Doubles squad propels Basic in semis

Basic’s John Anderson and Darren Parke swept their three doubles sets, leading the Wolves to an 11-7 home victory over Green Valley in the Sunrise Region boys tennis semifinals Saturday.
The Wolves play defending Sunrise champion Coronado for the title at 6 p.m. Monday at the Darling Tennis Center.
Evan Song was 3-0 in singles for Green Valley.
In the other Sunrise semifinal, Brian Kenyon and Colton Pate each went 3-0 in singles as Coronado defeated visiting Foothill, 14-4.
Jordan Fenn and Matt Gapultos went 3-0 in doubles for the Cougars.
• SUNSET — Defending Sunset Region champ Bonanza rolled to a 17-1 victory over visiting Cimarron-Memorial.
Jeremy Anderson and Dallin Hyer teamed to go 3-0 in doubles, and Aashish Daulat, Tommy Lettero and Scott Davis each went 2-0 in singles for the Bengals.
At Palo Verde, Hadrien Saperstien was 2-0 in singles to help the Panthers defeat Bishop Gorman, 15-3.
The doubles teams of Spencer Aguiar and Zach Wetterling, Zach Bellon and Fernando Sunago and Danny Oka and David Nichols each went 2-0 for Palo Verde.
The Panthers play Bonanza for the title at 3 p.m. Monday at the Darling Center.
GIRLS
• SUNSET — Palo Verde swept the doubles sets on the way to a 12-6 semifinal win over visiting Sierra Vista in the Sunset Region girls tournament.
The Panthers’ doubles teams of Lauren Centrella and Shelby Zepeda and Kyley Scheier and Kelly Grob each went 3-0.
At Arbors Park, Ciera Courtney went 3-0 in singles to lead defending Sunset champ Bishop Gorman to a 14-4 win over Clark.
The Gaels play Palo Verde at 3 p.m. Monday at the Darling Center for the title.
Sisters Iesha and Natasha James went 3-0 in doubles for the Chargers.
• SUNRISE — Hillary Johnson and Katy Gardner went 3-0 in doubles to lead defending Sunrise Region champion Coronado to a 15-3 win over visiting Green Valley.
Ilyssa Popowcer and Maddison Mathis went 2-0 in doubles for the Cougars, who play Del Sol in the title match at 6 p.m. Monday.
Del Sol beat Liberty 12-6 in its semifinal Friday.
