Clark’s Audrey Boch-Collins captures second straight 4A girls singles title

Clark sophomore Audrey Boch-Collins cloaks her extraordinary all-around game with a shy smile and bashful sense of confidence.

“It takes a lot of focus,” Boch-Collins says.

The kind that Nevada high school players can’t figure out how to break.

Boch-Collins concluded her season with an undefeated record after a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Bishop Manogue’s Tara Chilton in the Class 4A state singles final Saturday at Darling Tennis Center.

With two straight 4A state championships on her resume, Boch-Collins plans to take a couple of days off before returning to the national circuit, where she boasts a five-star ranking as one of the country’s top recruits.

“People expected me to do well. It’s a feel-good victory,” said Boch-Collins, who hasn’t lost a set in two years playing for the Chargers. “It was my goal to have a repeat. It was a good season.”

Palo Verde’s Isabella Shelton and Shelby Graber joined Boch-Collins as 4A state champions with a 6-1, 5-7, 6-1 doubles victory over Coronado’s Megan King and Sidra Wohlwend.

Shelton and Graber were motivated by the Panthers’ loss to Faith Lutheran in the team portion of the Sunset Region tournament and used it as fuel to win the doubles title.

“As a senior, I had been used to winning in the team area more,” Shelton said. “We had to depend on ourselves for this one.”

Olivia Mikkelson of Boulder City coasted to a 6-3, 6-1 win over The Meadows’ Lindsay Hofflander to claim the Class 3A state singles championship.

Mikkelson, a three-star recruit, according to the Tennis Recruiting Network, said she always wanted to win a state title — even before she decided to play high school tennis — and was overjoyed with her decision to compete for the Eagles this season.

“I absolutely loved it, and I’m definitely going to do it again next year,” Mikkelson said. “When I signed up, (this) was always the goal. Win state.”

The Meadows’ Peyton Barsel and Grace Nemec topped teammates Claire Strimling and Isabella Monroe 6-3, 6-1 in the 3A state doubles final to add another title to the team championship they won Friday.

“We always were practicing with our team,” Nemec said.

“I was super excited it was an all Meadows final,” Barsel added
