CCSN softball comes up short to Southern Idaho in tourney

The Community College of Southern Nevada got one win over the College of Southern Idaho in the NJCAA Region 18 softball tournament, in Thursday’s opening round.

Unfortunately for the Coyotes, they needed two to stay alive, and the Golden Eagles didn’t cooperate in the losers bracket final, beating CCSN 7-5 on a two-run homer in the seventh inning Saturday in Salt Lake City.

With the game tied at 5 in the top of the seventh, Southern Idaho’s Desi Thompson hit a two-run homer off Kelly Griego.

Griego had a two-run homer for the Coyotes (31-18) in the first inning.

Xavier Scruggs homered for UNLV (17-31, 6-11 MWC), and Calvin Beamon had two doubles and three RBIs.

• UNLV SOFTBALL — At San Diego, the Rebels (34-25, 9-6 MWC) lost to San Diego State, 5-3.
