Can Vlade Divac save the Sacramento Kings?

Despite a solid playing career, former NBA player Vlade Divac is mostly remembered for his ability to make even the slightest contact look like a violent collision.

A bump from an offensive player would often send Divac flying through the air in hopes of drawing a charge.

Now Divac appears to have a new role as he continues to try to make a name for himself in his post-playing career.

ESPN’s Marc Stein reported that Divac, the vice president of basketball and franchise operations for the Sacramento Kings, now appears to be the man in charge of personnel for the beleaguered franchise.

“Sources told ESPN.com ‎that Divac … is indeed regarded as the team’s top basketball official by owner Vivek Ranadive after months of turbulence in Sacramento,” Stein wrote.

If true, that would mean the relatively inexperienced executive has leapfrogged the assistant general manager, general manager and head scout and everyone else in the front office to claim the top spot on the franchise’s front office totem pole.

This seems like a great idea.

There’s no way this plan is going to flop.
