Bonanza reaches tourney semis

Ryan Pineda was 3-for-3 with a double, an RBI and two runs to lead Bonanza to a 6-4 prep baseball victory Tuesday over visiting Flowing Wells (Ariz.) in the Blazer Spring Bash.

The victory moved the Bengals into the semifinals of the Purple Division 2.

Matt Johnson was 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI for Bonanza.

The Bengals will play Vista Murrieta (Calif.) at 8 a.m. today at Las Vegas High. Las Vegas will host Birmingham (Calif.) in the other Purple Division 2 semifinal at 11.

Santana (Calif.) 7, Sierra Vista 0 — At Sierra Vista, Brandon Bell threw a three-hitter to lead the Sultans over the Lions.

Bell struck out six, and Santana scored two in the top of the first and never trailed.

Las Vegas 8, San Gorgonio (Calif.) 1 — At Las Vegas, Marvin Campbell was 3-for-3 with three doubles and two RBIs to lead the Wildcats over the Spartans.

Christian Lucero and Felix Segovia each had two hits for Las Vegas, which had nine doubles.

Bryan Harper pitched the distance, allowing three hits and striking out eight.

Centennial 16, Sandpoint (Idaho) 5 — At Centennial, Josh Barrone went 3-for-3 with two doubles and four RBIs as Centennial beat Sandpoint in five innings.

Billy D’Arienzo was 2-for-3 with four RBIs for Centennial, and winning pitcher Ryan Giesler allowed four hits, struck out 10 and walked one.

Palo Verde 3, South (Calif.) 0 — At Palo Verde, Dylon Hepworth doubled home a run in the fourth inning, and the Panthers held on for the win.

Jordan Worley pitched a five-hitter and struck out seven to get the win, and Jordan Pierce hit a two-run single in the fifth inning.

Huntington Beach 7, Palo Verde 5 — At Palo Verde, Kyle Ammons was 3-for-4 with a double and a home run to lead the Oilers over the Panthers.

Huntington Beach scored two runs in the top of the seventh to break a 5-5 tie.

Boulder City 11, Cheyenne 3 — At Boulder City, Mike Long went 2-for-4 with a home run, two RBIs and three runs to lead the Eagles past the Desert Shields.

Winning pitcher Jake Slater homered, and teammate Zach Bartholomew doubled twice and drove in three runs.

Cleveland (Calif.) 10, Coronado 6 — At Durango, the Cavaliers scored five runs in the first and rolled to the win.

Josh Bryan was 2-for-3 with a triple, a homer and two runs, and teammate Carmen Romano had two doubles and three RBIs for Coronado.

Coronado 10, West Ranch (Calif.) 1 — At Sierra Vista, Romano was 4-for-4 with two runs and two RBIs to lead the Cougars to the win.

Gary Detwiler was 2-for-4 with a double, two runs and two RBIs, and Jordan Blanchard went 3-for-4 with a run and an RBI for the Cougars.

Bryan hit a three-run homer, and winning pitcher Cory Ginther allowed a run on six hits in six innings. He struck out four and walked none.

The Cougars will play Huntington Beach (Calif.) in the Purple Division 3 semifinals at 10:45 a.m. today at Sierra Vista.

San Fernando (Calif.) 4, Shadow Ridge 3 — At Centennial, the Tigers scored a run in the top of the seventh to edge the Mustangs.

Sandpoint (Idaho) 10, Shadow Ridge 2 — At Centennial, the Bulldogs pounded 16 hits, including eight doubles, to defeat the Mustangs.

LIONS TOURNAMENT

Silverado 5, El Camino Real (Calif.) 4 — At San Diego, the Skyhawks had four consecutive singles in the bottom of the seventh to score two runs to get the win at the Mike Morrow Lions Tournament.

Tony Valiente singled home the tying run, and Justin Rainville delivered the game-winning single.

Rainville was 2-for-2, and Valiente, Chase Bradford and Mike McDade each had two hits for the Skyhawks.

Spring Valley 6, Hilltop (Calif.) 1 — At Chula Vista, Calif., Tyler Anderson pitched the distance, striking out 11 and scattering nine hits, to lead the Grizzlies.

Austin Hunt had a homer and three RBIs to lead the Spring Valley offense.

Green Valley 6, Edison (Calif.) 3 — At Chula Vista, Calif., Tyler Jones was 3-for-3 with a double, a home run and two RBIs to lead the Gators.

Kevin Stethem, Nick Melino and Brendan O’Connell each had two hits for Green Valley. Winning pitcher Mark Johnson went the distance, allowing five hits and one walk with eight strikeouts.

Valley Center (Calif.) 7, Foothill 4 — At Ramona, Calif., the Falcons jumped to a 3-0 lead but couldn’t hold on.

Jordan Stewart hit a home run for Foothill.
