Justin Verlander starts for the Tigers, and this is a mismatch in the biggest way. Verlander is coming off a great complete-game performance in Game 5 of the ALDS. The Yankees are in a team batting slump. Derek Jeter was one of the only Yankees hitting, and he’s out. New York is on the road, having troubles hitting and facing maybe the best pitcher in the American League. The Tigers have the hitters to light up Phil Hughes.
